OK so I kind of came up with my own recipe for a “healthier” version of an apple pie/ dutch apple pie. It’s got half the sugar and half the dough.

I call this an open faced pie with apples pears and peaches.

Makes 8 servings

Ingredients

– Pack of store bought refrigerated pie crust/ dough (comes 2 in a pack)

For the Filling

⁃ 6 cups fruit sliced and peeled (I used 2 apples, 2 pears and 2 peaches)

⁃ 1/2 cup brown sugar

⁃ 1 teaspoon cinnamon

⁃ 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice

⁃ Juice of 1/2 a lemon

⁃ 1/8 teaspoon salt

For the Topping

⁃ 2 tablespoons brown sugar

⁃ 2 tablespoons butter

⁃ 1/4 cup quick oats

⁃ ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Instructions

• Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

• Peal and slice fruit.

• Combine fruit, brown sugar, cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice , and salt.

• Place rolled out pie dough in 2 trays

• Fill pastry shell with fruit mixture

• Combine topping ingredients in the same bowl that had the fruit. Use that last bit of juice left inside the bowl too and mix until crumbly then sprinkle over top of fruit.

• Fold over the edges of the pie crust to keep ingredients contained. (See photos)

• Bake for 45 minutes, until the fruit is tender and topping is browned.

• Let cool, serve and enjoy
